Bill Murray is my boyfriend

So, Bill Murray isn't really my boyfriend, but there were often times I fantasized he was. The span of my crush on Mr. Murray dates back to his days on Saturday Night Live. What made it even more intriguing was my former brother in law's affiliation with one of the funniest men alive. He told us of his days hanging out with Bill at Loyola Academy. There were photographs documenting his claims. A young Bill Murray, in a suit, standing next to my bro by marriage.

Funny goes a lot further than incredibly handsome. By normal standards, Bill is not a looker. However, he exudes a sensuality that rips through the movie and television screen. I remember seeing Stripes for the first time and experiencing tingles. His caddish portrayal of Army recruit John Winger just sent me over the edge. As a result, I developed a crush on a guy who had a similar sarcastic, witty and charming personality. He, too, wasn't pretty to gaze upon. However, he captured my interests for many years. He was my real-life Bill Murray.

As time progressed, my Bill Murray fixation was put on the back burner. Oh, I never stopped adoring him from afar. With stellar performances in Scrooged, What About Bob?, Groundhog Day, Kingpin, Osmosis Jones, his voice work as Garfield, he was never forgotten. Admittedly, my heart palpatations diminished slightly until ... Lost in Translation. I fell in love all over again. When his Bob Harris sings More Than This to Scarlet Johannson's Charlotte, the intimacy of their relationship is revealed. The movie; awesome. My boyfriend; phenomenal!

While at work yesterday on my break, I looked for something to read. I found a copy of the magazine featured that the top of today's post. Movies Rock is a new mag that had the brilliant idea to feature Mr. Murray on its cover as Elvis. GENIUS! Inside the back cover you'll find the final page featuring the comedic icon. 1. Wait a minute here, I thought Bill Murray was MY boyfriend! :) Isn't it odd how so many of us adore him? I also had an epic crush on a classmate with a very Billy Murray-like appearance, lasting all 4 years of high school. Here's a Bill M story that will make you appreciate him even more. I'm in an online support group for parents of children with heart defects. Every so often, one of the kids would be picked for the "Make A Wish" program. A high school senior's (near Chicago, if I recall correctly)wish was for Bill Murray to attend his high school graduation. He didn't just attend, he sat next to the boy for the whole ceremony, came back to his house for a big party and kept in touch with him afterwards, until the young man passed away a few years later. See, all the more reason that Bill Murray is stellar boyfriend material.

  3. Here's a Bill Murray story for you: When I joined the Army, I took basic training at Fort Knox, where most of the basic training scenes in 'Stripes' was shot, including where we got our haircuts and uniforms, the obstacle course and the famous graduation scene. If we made it, our company would be graduating on that exact parade field. We used that as a motivational tactic among ourselves, a group of kids away from home for the first time under physical and mental stress. I can't tell you how many times the focal point of a pep talk was "you can't quit now; you'll miss out on marching on the same field Bill Murray and John Candy marched on!" Looking back now, it's kind of amazing that simply being at the same site where a popular movie was shot effectively pulled people through some pretty arduous tasks.

  4. Ah, see there's so many more reasons for me to love Bill. He's a great guy, source of inspiration (whether he realizes it), and he makes us laugh ... and laugh.

  5. Creepy... I JUST pulled Lost in Translation from the back of the DVD bin and re-fell in love with it. It really affected me profoundly... moreso than when I saw it in the theatre. I almost mentioned this, but never did. Have you been reading my mind? What gives?

  6. Lydia! I don't think I'm in your brain, but who knows. Maybe there's some telepathic wavelength we're both on.
Bill Murray has been the subject of discussion lately. Some how "Lost in Translation" was part of a blog thread as was the 'spoiler' for what Bob says to Charlotte at the very end.
    Awesome movie. A W E S O M E.
