Kiss me, my fool!

Image
New Year's Eve is coming up in a couple of days. When one searches on Google random things can pop up. I like this word. . . a lot. Sometimes I experience this. . . then, sadness strikes. One cannot do this alone. Here's to ringing in 2014 kissing my pillow.

Whoa! Hold on cowboy!

Give me asylum: A monthly request

Right to the point: I'm a girl who has needed a check up from the neck up. Thumbing through the Yellow Pages for a shrink isn't what is inferred. Although, that would probably do me a world of good. After all, there are plenty of reasons for the manner in which I act and react to situations in my life. Knee jerk reactions that often leaving me wishing I was someone else. Stop. The eight sided, fire engine red sign is held up in my mind. Maybe it is progress that I'm capable of catching my negative responses to even the simplest things. However ... you knew this was coming, right? This past week has been very trying. Why? Well, facing my increasing age is not something that weighs heavily on my mind.  Getting older means I'm still here on planet Earth.  Good, right? Yes, but as a woman it's often a battle of the hormones. Guys, this might be the point where you wince or stop reading.  It is your decision, but it could get graphic.  I'm writing this ...

Too much and not enough

I've been a lousy blogger lately.  It isn't that I have nothing to share.  OK, let me rephrase that. There are plenty of subjects and a plethora of conundrums dancing about in my brunette covered head.  It's simply a matter of choosing what to put out to the masses (all eight of you) to read.  Public consumption of personal details was never something of concern.  If you know me you realize there is very little I've censored ... in the past.  Presently, it is difficult to blather on about my personal life because the subjects are not some passers by who departed my life as aimlessly and carelessly as they entered. ie, Internet or laundromat men.  The people who share my airspace are not going away any time soon (thank God!).  But since much of what I write about is based on my day to day emotions, it's increasingly challenging to throw it out in a public forum. Anyone who has read this blog in the last three or four months knows that I have a ne...

Dress me up!

Image
Every time a birthday approaches -- my own -- I tend to paint a mental picture of how grandiose it will pan out.  As it unfolds, reality doesn't meet the fantasy hopes and dreams. But I manage to turn a year older and deal with the fact that for most people, a birthday is just another day of the year.  Expecting other people to treat my birthday like a national holiday is utter nonsense and it is up to me to make it spectacular even if I am the only one attending the party. What better ensemble to celebrate, not only the anniversary of my birth (I'll be 45 this August), but also the mid transformation of my body than with an exquisite red dress ! I've never owned a red dress other than my junior year, polyester show choir dress.  At least I know red is a color that suits me. When I was younger my modesty stood in the way.  I thought red was an ostentatious hue. As I aged my weight was my excuse. Mislead, I believed such a brilliant tone would make me look bigger. N...

Don't you wish your girlfriend kicked a$$ like me? Don't you?

We all have our good days and bad days. The majority, myself included, just keep plugging along despite what our mood may be dictating.  Yesterday was my seventh day in a row to report to work. There is no doubt that I let my disapproval of this scheduling blunder be known at every opportunity.  In the retail world of optics, working five in a row is often pushing the sanity buttons a bit much. I stand for much of my shift, OK? Not to mention, just like anyone's job, there are aspects about the work place that drive me absolutely bonkers given the chance.  That's where I have to take in what is useful and dismiss the rest of the din.  It's difficult particularly when my patience is hanging on a gossamer thread. Sunday brought a disappointing call from my lab partner of the day. She was ill and unable to come to work. Being the super hero that I am, I said I was up to the task.  I've been doing this for 14 years. Grinding lenses can be done in my sleep.  A...

2-do or not 2-do

It started to set in last night.  I knew it was taking a toll while viewing "American Idol."  Wednesdays are elimination night. Quite frankly, there is little concern from this mommacita as to who is sent packing with their dreams tucked in their carry-on baggage.  This year isn't even snark worthy as years past have been. Sad, really. Sad. That brings me to my mood that began last night.  It came from nowhere... much like the alien monster that threatens mankind in the B-movies of the '60s.  When the results show on Idol came down to Big Mike Lynche or Crystal and they told the dred-locked not full of the mange single mom, I almost wept.  I-DO-NOT-CARE! And that was all the indication required for me to know I was spiraling into despair (hyperbole). As with all things Marissa, I had to analyze my dilemma.  There could have been a variety of reasons but nothing stuck out like that proverbial sore thumb.  Some possibilities were: I'm missing t...

Sigh -- shut up and kiss me

I was on youtube looking for another Mary Chapin Carpenter song when this one jumped out at me.  It spoke to me at a volume of 11. and the link in case the video doesn't work for you :) "Shut Up and Kiss Me"

Single girl seeks cool as hell single man

This is difficult for me to articulate.  However, I will make a valiant attempt. Being single sucks ass. How's that for eloquence?  Oh, sure I make it look like a walk in the park, but I am sick of taking that walk alone, do you dig?  Here's the rub: In my numerous years of singledom, I have become ridiculously particular.  Shame on me. And shame on the men who don't measure up to my expectations. It's not like ordering Chinese take-out. Here's another thorn in my side.  Sometimes a person drops from the sky (no, not a skydiver) who just rocks your proverbial world, but they aren't exactly conveniently located.  DAMN IT! I suspect a sane person might shrug it off and move on to the next contestant on the Dating Game. But alas, you're discerning and can't stop thinking that there's a reason this awesome cat came from out of the blue and into your dominion. Plus, this guy is f'ing cool that you're willing to walk across broken glass while b...

Classmates.rob

Image
A few years back when my 20th high school reunion was being organized, I joined Classmates.com. At that time it was really the best way to keep current with the ongoing plans.  I'm quite certain free sites like Facebook and Myspace weren't around or, if they were, they were in their infancy stages. Being part of Classmates.com had one major problem: I had to cough up funds to be granted full access to information and contact with friends.  That grated my nerves, but I assumed it would be worth the investment.  My gold membership was maintained for a couple of years but contact with former classmates was incredibly limited. I didn't attend the 20th reunion due to a personal cash flow problem. Ironic, isn't it? With Facebook -- and once upon a time, Myspace -- being a social networking mecca (sorry Clark), it would seem that Classmates.com would realize that if people don't have to pay to reconnect, they won't.  Yet, this morning I received a notification that ...

All I want for Christmas ...

Image
I just called work to see when they'd need me today.  My original start time of 10 AM is being pushed back to Noon. While the rest of the retail world is being given a jump start by Black Friday, the world of optics takes a crash course in the harmonies of crickets chirping.  I've already showered.  Sitting here in my robe with wet hair; a cute kitten curled up on my lap, I have to ask what else do I need?  Another cup of coffee preferably delivered to me by a loving, hunky man who understands that kittens on laps are best left undisturbed.  Yep. I'm daydreaming again.  While I know there's a perfect bra out there for me so is the ideal man.  Perhaps the two will be found on the same day. Choirs of angels sing as the heavens open up with a hallelujah chorus. The playful melody of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" keeps ringing through my head.  I can't help it. There's no shame in having a one track mind, is there?  After all, it could be s...

Beware the stare

Image
When I read the first 3 words of my horoscope this morning my heart went pitter patter. It was quickly replaced by a sense of panic. I work in a mall. Do you realize the number of freakazoids who meander the corridors of a mall? I work where we're on display like poo-flinging monkeys in the zoo! I have no idea who might be gazing at me. I'd die a thousand deaths if it's Mullet man. Seriously, if that was the case I'd pull a Samurai suicide with a dull butter knife. A certain someone -- after yet another day of boring through your soul with their penetrating glances -- will finally approach you and say what's on their mind: you! If you're unattached and interested, this could be the one. You know, The One! For good measure, how about returning a few intense stares yourself? Just don't be surprised when once the staring begins, few words are exchanged. I've not been feeling a penetration of any sort lately... glances or otherwise. There's no doubt th...

Yesterday was GLEEday

Image
No, I didn't fall asleep at the wheel nor did Rissy fall in a well. I knew yesterday was the day of GLEE. On dual levels. I was a happy girl. Jumping for joy kind of girl. Plus, at 8 pm central GLEE, the show, was on. I didn't send out my usual reminder because I had other pressing things going on other than writing about why Glee is my favorite not-so-guilty guilty pleasure. Nope. I had another totally unguilty pleasure to attend to. So there! Plus, my cold-funk was getting the best of my and it required a hot shower lasting close to 30 minutes to help break up the junk in my head. Indeed yesterday was Glee night and I managed to leave work early enough to catch 30 minutes of the hour long program. Speaking of programs, my boss needs to get with the scheduling program and give me Gleeday night off. Sheesh! I don't like watching shows online that I can very well view on television. And NO! I don't own a DVR but you're welcome to buy me one for Christmas if...

Be brave; be an adult

Today's horriblescope is brought to you by Liquid Courage. The fine makers of tequila, vodka, bourbon and on extra special occasions, Dom Perignon. They say ( who are they anyway ?) "actions speak louder than words." Another good one is "silence is golden." But I do suspect there are those times when a person just needs to allow some transparency. The assumption that one's mind can be read has long been the cause of broken relationships or missed opportunity. Leo (7/23-8/22) Try saying what you feel instead of hoping someone close to you will read your mind. Not only will it save lots and lots of confusion, but you'll feel brave and adult for actually facing this situation head-on rather than trying to pretend it's not there. The other party may not respond in the way you would hope, but you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you did everything you could in the most honorable way possible. What I'm not afraid to say is that today is th...

For Sale!

Image
Today begins a weekend long community garage sale in Manteno, Il. I'm helping my sister today. I've packed up some goodies to toss into the mix. Most of it has belonged to Mancub. Being a man who is always looking for a means of buying more Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, he inquired if he'll reap the benefits of selling his items. Being the sucker that I am, I said yes. The weather doesn't seem to be cooperating to guarantee a great turn out. Then again, I know there are some die hard bargain hunters out there who, much like the U.S Postal Service, will not let a little bad weather deter them from their appointed rounds. Helping my sister out also helps me. I am saved from making a trip to the laundromat! Along with the crap gathered to sell, I'll be loading the car with my dirty laundry. Happy Friday! And if you're a local come buy some amazing sh-- ... great stuff! Make it an adventure! Like a Where is Waldo book. If you can find me I'll give you a prize. I'...

Frosting tips: Who said this blog wasn't informative?

Maybe it's just me, but this video heightened my interest in frosting. What's that? I'm nuts? This is useful since I couldn't care less about the cake. Perfect tips for hand to mouth frosting feeding frenzy.

Sputtering into chaos

Image
It's early on Tuesday morning. I usually do a lot of writing at this time, but not on my blog. Typically I am writing a response email to a friend who lives in another time zone. In fact, he's on another continent. Our emails are like conversations with delayed reactions. The words just flow and we blather in a singular format. It works much of the time. I tend to send more emails because my day is just starting when his workday is ending. I babble about my day. Let's face it, I just babble incessantly and he has yet to complain. His emails are usually long with details about the day, a recalled memory, questions or a funny anecdote. Whatever pops into our head lands on the screen to be sent. This has become part of my morning routine. Do you follow? So why am I writing here rather than there ? Work. His work. Hello!? Some people and their priorities. JEESH! Creature of habit here!! He's on the road. Short note sent to inform me that he was pressed for time...

Horoscope Humbug

Image
Dear Yahoo horoscope-bullshit blatherer, Please stop presuming that every one has a lover or significant other. These assumptions discredit your already questionable skills as a prognosticator. For those of us who aren't so lucky in love it is truly irritating. Quite frankly, I'm becoming rather pissed off. I was once amused by your keen ability to be vague yet ballparkishly correct. Today's horoscope for Leos is just over the top and hits me in my already frail ego. As a result, I am forced to express this sentiment with the voracity of 1000 PMSing women unable to obtain chocolate. To you, I say, suck it! " It's all about you today -- and your lover will no doubt prove it to you from the moment you open your eyes. Since you've been planning an equally wonderful surprise for them, of course, there's no reason to feel guilty about being so spoiled. Besides, who in their right mind wouldn't make a fuss over you? " PS. Remember I'm a lion. I ...

Picture This

I have received numerous additions to my photo play list. It's going to be phenomenal. I knew y'all wouldn't fail me. Some songs I have heard, but there are several that didn't ring a bell. When early in my life my dad advised me to surround myself with people who are fountains of information and more talented than I am, he was right! I've been listening to the unheard songs as they stream in either here or on Facebook. Some are catchy while others are heartbreaking. Those fit, too. Our lifetimes are filled with joy, as well as, sadness or memories of happier times. Last night friend and fellow blogger Angie Bailey recommended a song ( These Photographs ) by Joshua Radin . I was immediately hooked on his music. To be honest, whenever I saw that guy's name, I thought he was a former American Idol contestant booted early in one of the 8 seasons. Oops. There's no denying he's the prince of shmoopy and judging by the comments on his videos on you...

Rissagain begin again

Image
"I gotta pick myself up. Dust myself off. Start all over again!" That seems to be my mantra for life. It doesn't matter what I encounter, I always manage to do exactly what the words depict. Unfortunately, I wish it didn't happen every time I embark on an endeavor to get healthy; lose weight; look good. There have been at least three times on this blog that I've made a declaration to change my craptacular lifestyle for the better. Each time, I've not only slipped, but I've taken a head first plunge into the junky abyss. This time may not be any different than previous attempts. However, here we go again! Yesterday I put on my walking shoes and set out for the trail. The temperatures were ideal. Although the sun was shining, the big cotton puffy clouds kept it from directly scorching my face. On my iPod was a funky cardio mix put out by Amazon.com. Seventeen current tracks remastered to keep the the feet moving and heart rate up. I lasted 14 tracks ...
