Glitter on the highway...

Image
...glitter on the mattress... Not so fast, cowboy!! The other night the snow was falling as I drove home from work. The temperature was below 15°F. The flakes were small, but not pellet like. Going the speed limit on I-57 wasn't optional. There was no rush to get home because the headlights shining on the freshly fallen snow was magical. Wet, big flakes don't have the same sparkle quality of the colder snow. If you live in a region where it snows you will understand. Don't laugh. For once in my life it seemed as if the roads were paved with glitter just for me. Shut up. I said don't laugh. When you're a woman like me, you have to find moments that make you feel exquisitely special. Those moments often have to be created in the mind. If only it could have been captured in a photo. The snow causes the world to hush. I loathe the cold, but snow brings with it something so ... comforting. At last my path was lined with glitter. I took it as a sign from...

Feelin' a new attitude

Hello, 2014! Welcome to my life. You bring with you the promise of clean pages on which to write. I won't leave the old chapters behind, but it is time for a new book to be written. A new saga in a series. In general, grand resolutions aren't made in the house of Riss. However, seeing it as a marker for a new start suits me. Making promises and not keeping them seems foolish. Why not adopt something that will bring enlightenment and joy? As I said in yesterday's post, I am ready to take a chance again. Throw some caution to the wind and let my heart soar instead of being sore. Who's with me? Anybody wanna jump on the new attitude train? I was going to say the Riss-train, but that would some how be turned into a perverse notion and the next thing you know invitations to partake in a human centipede would arrive. Yeesh. As part of my new attitude campaign, the look of this blog has changed. It is a tad spiffier and spruced up. We've parted ways with th...

Chalene Johnson's 30-Day Challenge

Image
This morning came knocking early.  It was exactly 4:17 AM when my body told me to wake up.  After doing what necessitated my way-before-sunrise wakening, sleep was attempted once more. Silly me.  I should know me better than that. At precisely 4:59 AM, reluctantly throwing in the towel for more slumber, I felt around for my cozy sweater and fuzzy slipper socks.  It's astounding what super powers one possesses in the dark. Rather than sit with my coffee perusing the countless paid programming/infomercials available, I decided it was time to put fingers to keyboard and write something.  I'd thought about just slapping up the video I made and posted on youtube yesterday.  This post is really an expansion of what is touched on in the nearly 5 minute video. It's available for viewing after the text. It won't be long and the new year will have been rung in.  For some of you it'll be a fond farewell to a year that didn't deliver what you'd hoped it would....

The Truth Hurts

All credit given to the above website. Thank you! 2010 is quickly coming to an end.  While holiday parties are still in full swing and gorging yourself is likely part of the festivities, I want you to be a forward thinker. Think ahead to your waistband sinking deeper into your middle.  Consider the buttons on your shirts crying out for mercy.  No one is shrinking your clothes, buttercup. It's time to Decide. Commit. Succeed. Who is going to get you there? YOU! Invite me to be part of your journey whether it is to get leaner or lose 100+ pounds.  I recently did the Shakeology 3-day Cleanse and lost EIGHT POUNDS!. It's gentle (no, you won't be pooping your pants when you sneeze or laugh really hard.) What this cleanse will do is prepare your body for healthier eating and exercise through detoxing yourself of all the buttery cookies, bacon wrapped everything and alcohol consumption it has been subjected to between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.

Rissolutions

It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life (for me) and I'm feelin' good. 2010 is here.  It seems only yesterday that I was making my first ever video blog!  Where did the time go?  Rehashing the year that has passed is not the intention of my rambling today.  You've been surfing the waves of 2009 with me. Many people set goals for the coming new year.  The most common amongst those are to lose weight; stop smoking.  Perhaps a few will commit to donating time to charity or something similar and selfless.  But not me.  Oh, you can bet your sweet tushies that I'll be raising funds and walking in the Relay for Life.  Mancub has full intentions of being an Easter Seals Champion even though he's no longer in Beta Club (due to change of school).  He's going solo and I couldn't be more proud. What I'm referring to, personally, is that I am not setting a goal to lose weight and the like. My Rissolutions will be soul driven.  My li...

New Year's Eve and the Angry Girl

Image
The new year is quickly approaching. In fact, it's so close I can hear the clicking of its stiletto heels on the pavement. New Year's Eve is very much like a Hollywood starlet with all the glitz and glamour of a red carpet event.  In she strolls and all the attention is on her.  So much is expected from this beauty.  Then, at least for me, reality strikes when she opens her mouth ... all the build up was for naught. She's just another girl wearing a form fitting designer gown on loan from Valentino and borrowed jewels from Harry Winston. Stripped down and without all the hype, we realize it's just the turning of a page on the calendar.  Well, that and we have to get accustomed to writing another date on checks. I do not fancy New Year's Eve.  There. I said it. Call me envious or jaded.  It's rare if ever that I have plans to celebrate the new year.  In this decade there has been only one occasion that I wasn't at home with my son.  It was 2001. ...

On the 1st day of New Year my true love gave to me

Image
Not a rat's ass f'ing thing! He hasn't found me yet. I think the video message will surely lure in a hunka-hunka-burnin' love who suits me to a tee, right? Yes? Probably not? Why I oughta!! What you see on the video is sincerely a dose of what anybody who chooses to hang out with me will get. Maybe I should adopt the thinking of little Miss Anna Kournikova who is quoted in my WILD WORDS FROM WILD WOMEN daily calendar -- Jan 1, 2009 " I am beautiful, famous and gorgeous. I could have any man in the world." Wow! All that humility and she can play tennis. That is what she's known for, correct? Isn't she more famous for boinking Enrique Iglesias? My Skechers need to meet her boney little ass. That's all I'm saying. I had a dream about Alton. He was entirely unappealing in nocturnal picture show. It's not to say he was disfigured or behaving badly. He's a truly cute dork. But the attraction just wasn't there. I recall talking to...

Inaugural video message from your Wildhair

Oh, nice still frame! I look like I'm about to heave or I'm doing my impersonation of Jabba the Hutt. This is an impromptu idea. I wanted to give my friends, family and readers something special for the end of the year. Let me know if this version of my randomosity is something appealing for the future. My random blathering takes on a whole new meaning when you witness it live ... or almost live. Happy New Year!

I like those curves...2008

Yes, the new year is closing in on me. According to Central Standard Time, it is 11:18 pm when I started this post. I can't really complain about 2007. It wasn't a bad year. It wasn't a stand up and cheer about it year, either. However, it was a year of growing emotionally. I suppose that could be considered stellar. I know a lot of people who haven't grown in that capacity for decades. At least they haven't overtly changed. However, that is not for me to judge or be concerned. I am declaring 2008 the Year of the Riss yes, you read it clearly. I'm not going to abandon friends, family or my dedication to being a selfless person. It does mean that I'm finally going to shift some focus on self-improvement. I'm going to give myself permission to have fun and live a little (again). I hope everybody can find it in themselves to be less selfish to NUMERO UNO! I know 'they' say everybody is too selfish as it is. I am not implying that you spend every pe...
