Get moving

Image
Blah blah blah a couple years ago I lost 40 pounds. Injury to the left knee incapacitated me beyond doing more than standing and walking. Then, the icky wound on the left leg. That is all it took for this food addicted, exercise loathing girl to revert back to the habits that would put all that weight back on. Yes, I am pissed at myself, but that mindset isn't going to help me one bit. All that can be done now is to pass 'get out of jail' and move on. I feel like shit and have accepted it. Now, let's get this big ol' ass on the road to recovery. In this instance I compare it to someone falling off the wagon with alcohol or heroin. Checking into rehab isn't feasible. So, that means I am my clinician and therapist along with the help of friends who've successfully lost weight. What's ironic is that a couple of those friends were inspired by my weight loss commitment to do the same for themselves ... and here we are. I thought the quickly approachi...

Day after Mother's Day 2013

Image
What else is there to do on the day after Mother's day other than video blogging? I could have written some things down ... earnest things ... but the mood wasn't there. Instead, I give you the following. I felt redemption was in order regarding my aesthetic in the above video. Just watch and I explain. Sort of. Kinda

Coffee, bagel and a curious conversation

Image
Today after I received multiple injections in my left leg -- part of treatment for totally grody varicose veins -- I walked across the clinic's parking lot to imbibe in coffee and a bagel. (French toast crunch, if you must know.) There I sat sipping my hazelnut coffee and scrolling through Google News when a woman who, judging by the volume of her voice, seemed oblivious that she was inside a restaurant where most people read and chill rather than a rock concert, came strolling over.  She was greeted by a couple others and went on to explain why she was late to what sounded like a weekly gathering. It was then that it seemed a grand idea for me to post what I overheard to Facebook. Rather than retype what has already been put into words, I copied and now shall execute the paste: FYI, apparently the plural of breakfasts is breakfastes ... At least according to the woman behind me. Marissa Rapier   A man sitting across from me has the u...

Look Ahead

Forget Candy and Ronnie

Rissy is so spaced out.  Today has been nothing but a challenge for me to keep focused.  I have no idea what is going on in my head.  It would be easy to use allergies as a scape goat.  PMS has come and gone. So, that's a no go.  Besides, I read on the back of my tampon box that women are prone to heightened intelligence when they are menstruating.  TMI? Get over it. You're on my turf, baby. At work there was an overwhelming cacophony; stimulus overload. Several voices entwined with a new printer alarm, machinery being operated, phones ringing, fax machines tweeting and buzzing. Add that to the droning sounds of monotonous pop radio.  Egads! I wanted to scream at everyone in my path like Sister Mary Elephant.  Seriously. My pulse was racing. All I wanted to do was run.  RUN AWAY from all the noise and discord of the day.  This week has been emotional for me.  Apparently my status updates on Facebook had a couple of my friends co...

Freaks come out at night -- Friday edition

I blame my sister Mary for this Friday night affliction.  I posted a Schick Bush trimmer commercial on Facebook and some how she discovered this wack-a-doodle or free spirit, if you will.  Ever since I've been watching her dance around in various ensembles. Frightening close ups, sweaty clavicle, terrible lip syncing. What's not to love? It's like crack without the residual stench, but rehab may be required.  May you all sleep well -- Remember, dance like no one is watching and make certain to hit record on the video camera when you do it.

Don't you wish your girlfriend kicked a$$ like me? Don't you?

We all have our good days and bad days. The majority, myself included, just keep plugging along despite what our mood may be dictating.  Yesterday was my seventh day in a row to report to work. There is no doubt that I let my disapproval of this scheduling blunder be known at every opportunity.  In the retail world of optics, working five in a row is often pushing the sanity buttons a bit much. I stand for much of my shift, OK? Not to mention, just like anyone's job, there are aspects about the work place that drive me absolutely bonkers given the chance.  That's where I have to take in what is useful and dismiss the rest of the din.  It's difficult particularly when my patience is hanging on a gossamer thread. Sunday brought a disappointing call from my lab partner of the day. She was ill and unable to come to work. Being the super hero that I am, I said I was up to the task.  I've been doing this for 14 years. Grinding lenses can be done in my sleep.  A...

My universe needs balance

Yeah, yeah. I know. Yesterday I was all Little Miss Cynical . Today, I give it counterbalance by providing you with this lovely little tune. I'm not 100% cold hearted and shut off from the concept of love. I just don't like the über importance placed on one single holiday.  It's too much pressure. Ladies and gentlemen, from her album Medusa: Annie Lennox Something So Right You've got the cool water When the fever runs high And you've got the look of love right in your eyes And I was in a crazy motion 'Till you calmed me down It took a little time But you calmed me down Some people never say the words "I love you" It's not their style to be so bold Some people never say the words "I love you" But like a child they're longing to be told They've got a wall in China It's a thousand miles long To keep out the foreigners They made it strong And I've got a wall around me That you can't even see It took a little tim...
